Electric generator - engine alteration from washing machine
Clean energy derived from natural resources is one of the most popular topics today. Imagine that you have a generator in your country house or country house that feeds all the resources of your farm with free electricity. It can be wind or water turbine - it does not matter. Do you think these are all fairy tales? Not at all. In fact, these are technical developments that are not so difficult and expensive to do at home with your own hands. One of these options based on a brushless DC motor we want to introduce today. The author proposes to rewire such an engine from the washing machine into the generator, re-soldering the stator coils in a special way. After this alteration, the engine can be used for a wind turbine. And if you equip it with a water intake device like a Pelton turbine,then you can build a hydroelectric generator.For convenience, you can mark groups of 3 coils with a marker. We cut each of 6 coil outlets with pliers according to the scheme.Cut off the edges you need to bend with a screwdriver or by hand, so that it would be more convenient to work with them later.We clean each contact with fine-grained sandpaper to improve the adhesion.With a soldering iron we tin the twist with a flux and solder it with tin solder. Unlock the twist, and solder it from the back side. Do the same with the rest of the contacts. As a result, we should have seven twists.
The necessary materials and toolsAs you probably already understand, today we only need the engine from the washing machine. The author used an inverter DC motor from the American washing machine Fisher & Paykel. Similar engines are used in their products by LG, which is present in our domestic market. We also need:
- Soldering iron, flux and solder;
- Hot glue;
- Fine-grained sandpaper - zero.
Getting to remount the engineYou need to work will dismantle the engine from the car body. It consists of three main parts:
- The stator is a round platform with leading winding coils located along the outer edge of the circle;
- The rotor is plastic or metal with plastic core cover. The perimeter of its inner wall contains permanent magnets;
- The shaft is the central part of the engine, equipped with bearings to transfer kinetic energy to the drum of the washing machine. We will work directly with the starter.
Preparation of the statorPlace the engine platform on the table, and proceed to work. Our goal is to rewire phase connections using a different scheme than the original (photo).

InsulationOur engine alteration is ready for a generator. It remains only to isolate the spikes on the ring and coils.An alternative method was used by the inventor, using hot glue as an insulator.
