Electric generator - hydro turbine from an old washing machine

The history of hydropower originates from a simple water wheel, which our ancestors decided to install on the rapids of the river. At first it was used for the mill, thereby facilitating the work of the millstones. Later, people learned to use the power of water for a variety of needs - making paper, sawing logs, in blacksmithing and even for brewing. The crown of creation was the electric generator, which was able to connect to the turbine. So there appeared hydroelectric power plants, the principle of which is used today for household inventions, including in today's home-made. Its author managed to collect it literally from the old washer, slightly modernizing and competently using the resources of the nearest river in its suburban area. He claims that he has been living for several years without connecting to electrical networks, and does not pay a penny for electricity.The power of the hydrogenerator is enough to provide electricity not only for all electrical appliances in the house, but also to pull the work of the workshop with power tools. How is this possible? Let's look together.

Principle of operation of a hydroelectric generator

This home design uses the native body of a washing machine. The engine is reassembled into generator mode, and placed back into its seat. The Pelton wheel is used as a driving turbine, accumulating water flows, and transferring kinetic energy to the generator. The alternating 3-phase current received at the generator output is passed through a rectifier from three diode bridges. Direct current is supplied to the batteries through the controller, and from them to the 12V / 220V inverter, again receiving a variable frequency.

Materials, tools

Materials:
  • Old washing machine with inverter engine
  • Pelton wheel;
  • A small piece of awning;
  • Plywood;
  • Plexiglas orPlexiglas;
  • Silicone;
  • Waterproofing for plastic - paint or mastic;
  • Self-tapping screws, nuts, washers, bolts and emery paper.

  • Drill with a core mill, drill bits and a nozzle for self-tapping screws;
  • Reciprocating saw or jigsaw;
  • Hand tools: wrenches, pliers, paint knife and silicone gun.

Collecting a hydroelectric generator Preparatory dismantling First you need to disassemble the washing machine, leaving only the parts we need.

You can fasten the turbine housing onto the tie-down belt to secure loads on cars. The author assures that at the pressure of water on his site, the unit produced 21A at 29V, which is 600W.With the increase in the nozzle of the crane, the power reached 900W.

The electric circuit proposed by the author of this homemade product is not limited to just a generator. For the planned consumption of electricity in the network requires a stable voltage and current, which are able to produce storage capacitors - batteries. Inverting a small voltage in the sufficient for domestic use, it is possible to organize the supply and distribution of it by house wiring to electrical appliances. The author also advises to use an electronic controller that shows the battery charge level, current consumption and output, temperature conditions, etc.

Natural resources that are abundant around us, can really be used for good. You just need a little knowledge of electrical engineering and old parts, lying around the backyard. And the rest will be helped by the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the real lover of inventions, because it is precisely these people who are responsible for the movement and development of technological progress.
