How to lead a controversy
Controversy does not mean reaching a consensus, but proving the correctness of your point of view and the ability to refute the arguments of an opponent who disagrees with you. For this purpose, various psychological and verbal methods are used, forcing the interlocutor to doubt that he is right and accept your point of view. At the same time, it goes without saying that there is no physical pressure on the opponent, and the whole conversation takes place in restrained, respectful tones.
The concept of culture of a polemical dispute includes a discussion of the issue with which both parties are quite well acquainted, while avoiding evasion from the topic and the transition to the individual. You must defend your position not because of stubbornness, but because you consider it the only correct one and are ready to prove this with any reason. During the polemical conversation, the atmosphere should be benevolent, both parties should be able to listen and understand each other. Controversy is a constructive conversation, and not upholding its position at all costs.
To lead productivelycontroversy, use certain techniques that are allowed by the rules of such disputes. Immediately try to determine what the principal position of your opponent is, this will allow you to quickly find the arguments that will be most effective.
Conduct a comparison of what your interlocutor says with how he actually acts. Using this technique, you make it more careful with your words. This gives you the opportunity to quickly find the opposite arguments that in the conditions of negotiation with a lack of thinking time gives a good result.
Appeal to those present when you prove your case. Refer in the dispute to the opinion of recognized authorities. Silence of those present by your interlocutor will be psychologically perceived as agreement with your arguments.
Use humor and a joke that can challenge even the most “reinforced concrete” argument. Take the initiative in your hands, asking your opponent a lot of questions, answering which he is able to get confused.
