How to strengthen the polyurethane cornice at the joints

Polyurethane ceiling moldings are preferred due to the presence of many advantages in products, among them the fact that the material will not crack during the service life. In addition, he is not afraid of occasional sudden temperature changes.

Preparation of tools and materials

For work should be used: tape measure, roller for applying glue, sealant for filling gaps, screws for additional fastening, glue, rags, trimming saw, pencil, gon, varnish, knife and emery paper.

Eaves mounting technology

To begin with, measure the length of the wall on which the eaves are supposed to be fixed, which will make it possible to determine where it is necessary to install intermediate blocks. Sealant should be applied with a roller on the back and top surface of the intermediate block. Blocks should also be fixed in place with screws designed for dry plaster; in this condition, the ceiling elements should remain until the sealant dries.
After the blocks are strengthened, you can proceed to fixing the main parts of the eaves. The distance between the intermediate blocks and the main cornice should be about 3 mm. Next, the ceiling and wall sides of the cornice will be covered with sealant, and you must use a 6 mm roller.
In those places where the junction of parts of the eaves and blocks was formed, it should be lubricated with polyurethane glue. After attaching the eaves, it should also be strengthened with screws. If it is intended to paint the cornice, then the heads of the screws and the gaps should be filled with sealant.
Latex sealant must be used to fill the gaps that have formed between the elements of the eaves and the wall. Before painting, previously filled holes must be treated with a primer. If the remnants of the sealant were formed, then you can get rid of them, using a damp cloth.
The eaves can be easily sawn with the use of a sawing saw; it will allow you to make accurate sawing at an angle of 90 °. In order to make a gash was made as accurately as possible, you should first make a markup on the element, using a pencil and a square.
After installation, it is possible to make the painting of the eaves with any paint and varnish composition. In order to provide a more secure fastening of the eaves, you can use self-tapping screws in tandem with glue. As a rule, it takes a day to dry the glue. If there is an excess of dried composition on the eaves, you can get rid of it by applying a knife and skin. Cleaning the joints should be done with sandpaper. When painting works it is necessary to start with the application of the composition to the place of the joint, only after you can go to the main cornice.
