Jasmine-shaped gardenia: watering, fertilizers, care

The main rule that is desirable to observe when growing gardenia, says that this magnificent flower loves consistency. In other words - the pot with this plant is not recommended to be moved often, but it is better to immediately decide on which sill or shelf it will always be on.

Temperature and light

Like any tropical ornamental plant, gardenia is a jasmine-shaped heat-loving, therefore for its proper maintenance it is necessary to take care that there are no frequent and sudden temperature drops in the room. The most comfortable summer temperature for healthy growth and development of a plant should be equal to 20-25 degrees. In winter, when gardenia is at rest, the temperature index should be equal to 16-20 degrees.
The pot with the gardenia should be placed in a well-lit place, and care should be taken to ensure that direct sunlight does not fall on the plant.Gardenia does not tolerate drafts, so put the pot should be away from open windows and vents.

Jasmine-shaped gardenia needs to be watered frequently and abundantly, because for a uniform and rapid growth of the plant, high soil moisture is required. Do not allow the soil to dry out, as this may cause the flower to wilt. Gardenia develops best in special light soils that provide a good supply of moisture and air to the root system.
Watering gardenia should only be separated water, which has a room temperature. During the period of bud formation (budding), the plant, besides careful and daily watering, must also be sprayed. In order to provide the necessary humidity, a humidifier can be installed near the plant pot.

Fertilizers and Diseases

Fertilizers should be applied to the soil in which gardenia grows, in spring or summer, during the period of intensive flowering. It is desirable to use only those mixtures that increase the acidity of the soil and contain iron in their composition. In specialized stores you can purchase universal fertilizer that is suitable for most types of decorative indoor plants.
Iron-containing fertilizers are good not only for the intensive development of a flower, but also for its protection against possible diseases. To combat insect pests (spider mites, scutes, and mealybugs) that can attack the gardenia both during dormancy and flowering, the most effective drugs are Guapsin and Trichophyt.
