Queen And Prince William Visit Emergency Refuge Centre For Grenfell Tower Victims

This morning, the Queen and her grandson Prince William dropped into an emergency refuge shelter in West London to meet with the survivors of the Grenfell Tragedy, which has so far claimed the lives of 30 people with a reported 76 people still possibly missing as a result of the blaze.

According to theBBC, Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Cambridge visited the Westway Sports Centre, where survivors are currently staying and volunteers are helping sort clothes donated to victims, to meet with local residents, the Emergency Services and community representatives.

The pair's visit comes hours after the Duchess of Cornwall paid tribute to the victims of the fire.

Attending the final of a children's creative writing competition on BBCRadio 2, Camilla said: "I'm sure all of you here today would like to join me in sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families and friends, who were so tragically involved in the horrific fire in North Kensington."

Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry gave personal donations to one of the funds for victims, in the hope their contribution would encourage others to "give generously" to the cause.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "The tragedy at Grenfell Tower has left a number of local people in need of urgent assistance. As residents of the local area they are keen to offer their immediate support.

"They hope that by donating to the appeal others in the community who are able will be encouraged to do the same."

The Royals' donations came amid criticism towards Theresa May—who has since launched an official public inquiry into the incident—after she failed to meet with survivors of the tragedy.

Buckingham Palace also released a statement on behalf of the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, yesterday to thank the emergency services who risked their lives on Wednesday.

The statement read: "My thoughts and prayers are with those families who have lost loved ones in the Grenfell Tower fire and the many people who are still critically ill in hospital.

"Prince Philip and I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of firefighters and other emergency services officers who put their own lives at risk to save others.

"It is also heartening to see the incredible generosity of community volunteers rallying to help those affected by this terrible event. ELIZABETH R," it concluded.

Our thoughts go out to all the victims and families during this tragic time.

The Met Police has set up an emergency number for anyone concerned about friends or family. Contact the Casualty Bureau on 0800 0961 233 or 0207 158 0197.
