The Duchess of Cambridge’s Luxembourg Royal Tour In Pictures
The Duchess of Cambridge has embarked on her second solo tour across Luxembourg. It is thought that Catherine, along with the rest of the royal family, has been deployed as ‘soft power’ by the Government, in order to smooth over relations between Britain and other EU countries following Brexit.
Apparently, those in charge at the Foreign Office are keen to ensure good relationships between the UK and the countries within the Union following the separation, and hope that the royal family can help to make this happen.
This is the second in a series of trips for the “Brexit Ambassadors”, as dubbed by the press. The tour follows a visit to Paris with the Duke of Cambridge in March, a two-day ‘charm offensive’, where the couple attended a Six Nations rugby match and enjoyed the city’s musuems and galleries. They also met with victims of the Bataclan and Nice attacks that took place happened last year.
In July, Catherine will be joined by Prince William on a visit to Germany and Poland to extend a ‘hand of friendship’ to the nations while Brexit negotiations get under way. The couple aren’t the only royal duo to head out on tours of Europe though, as Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are also due to visit a range of countries, including Romania, Italy and Austria.
This isn’t the first time Catherine has made an official royal visit abroad. Her first was back in October 2019, when she visited Holland.
It’s been a busy few days for the Duchess, who left husband William back in the UK with their two young children, George, three, and Charlotte, two. Her schedule was jam-packed full of royal engagments, meetings with local dignitaries and the unvieling of a mural British cyclist Tom Simpson and Luxembourgish cycling legend Charly Gaul.
So what events did she attend on her Solo Tour of Luxembourg?
First off, the Duchess joined Luxembourg’s prime minister Xavier Bettel for an event commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Treaty of London, which confirmed the nation’s independence.
During the day, the Duchess looked effortlessly elegant in a classic
powder blue coat dress, designed by Emilia Wickstead. This timeless
piece was paired with her trusty nude heels and £3,500 blue topaz and
diamond drop earrings in white gold from Kiki McDonough.
The day then saw the Duchess of Cambridge carrying out five engagements celebrating the “cultural and historic ties between the UK and Luxembourg”.
First stop was the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art, where she viewed British artists Sir Tony Cragg and Darren Almond.
The Duchess then visited Place Clairefontaine, a cycling-themed festival, where she met members of the local community.

At the festival, Catherine also shed some light on how George and Charlotte’s own cycling practise is coming along. She spoke to professional cyclist Frank Schleck, who said “She said their kids have bikes and that they’re always excited about trying to ride.” Adorable!
Next, the Duchess dropped in on Their Royal Highnesses, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Palace.

The day finished with the primary reason for Kate’s visit. Kate joined the official commemoration of the 1867 Treaty of London at Luxembourg City Museum.
