18 years ago, a diet that everyone called “Subway” was popular. A student at Indiana University Jared Vogl weighed 193 kilograms, and this weight spoiled his health and complicated his life. Then he decided to change his lifestyle and came up with a diet: he went to Subway, ordered an 18-centimeter turkey sandwich for lunch and a sandwich with vegetables for dinner. After a year of such a power system, he lost 111 pounds. After the fast-food restaurant management learned about this, Jared was invited to star in an advertisement and tell his story.

No wonder that later everyone sat down on sandwiches, in which there is no mayonnaise and butter, and tried to lose weight.

There is no scientific evidence of this, but this did not stop the naturopathic doctor Peter D’Adamo to publish the book “4 blood groups - 4 lifestyles”. In the late 90s, more than 7 million people purchased the book worldwide.


Biochemist Barry Sears in 1995 published the book "Health Zone", which told about the zonal diet. Its essence lies in the separation of proteins into blocks, as well as the observance of their ratios at each meal: 30 percent - proteins, 30 percent - saturated fats, 40 percent - simple carbohydrates. Even Madonna, Renee Zellweger and Demi Moore were delighted with this diet.


This year in America they published a book by Dean Ornish “Eat more and lose weight”.In it, the nutritionist said that it is worth forgetting about counting calories and starting to count the amount of fat you eat. If the fat is less than 10 percent per day, then the process of losing weight is started. Optimal foods that should be included in the diet: whole unprocessed foods such as fruits, vegetables, greens, legumes, and cereals.

In one of her shows in 1989, Oprah Winfrey said that she lost weight thanks to a liquid diet. After her miraculous transformation, all the girls began to adhere to this particular system of nutrition. It lies in the fact that you need to eat only liquid food, for example: a decoction of oatmeal, juice from vegetables, meat broth from lean meat. However, it can be observed no more than a week, since then the stomach begins to lazy.


Elizabeth Taylor publishes a self-help book entitled “Elizabeth Takes Off,” and, naturally, all women do everything they can to live just like her. The secret of her perfect figure? Eat raw vegetables, but sometimes let yourself relax and eat what you dreamed of, such as fried chicken. For motivation, she even hung up the most terrible picture of herself on her fridge - she was a reminder of what she would be like if she quit the diet.


A new book titled "Fit for Life" claims that perhaps weight loss is not what you eat, but when you eat. The authors Harvey and Marilyn Diamond have put forward the theory of product compatibility: if there are certain products wrong, then they become harmful, and you get fat, that is, you get better becausethat eat protein and starchy foods. A new diet pill, called Dexatrim, has been an indispensable tool for weight loss in many women. It contained antiedematous phenylpropanolamine (PPA) and amphetamine-like ephedra.The formula remained unchanged until 2000, until scientists found a link between diet pills and an increased risk of stroke (like many other diet pills).

However, the Food and Drug Administration intervened in its business after 30 followers of the diet died. The concept: drink something called “Proline” - a high-protein drink made from leftovers from a slaughterhouse, such as cow skin and tendons.
