What to see in Samara?

Samara is one of the original towns, where there are a lot of interesting places that you should pay attention to. If you are going to visit this city, find out what you can see in it.

Sights of Samara

It’s most convenient to start your trip around Samara from the center of Kuybyshev Square (It is worth noting that in Soviet times Samara was renamed Kuibyshev, and only after the collapse of the USSR it was restored to its historical name). Not far from the square there is a beautiful Gothic church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is more than 100 years old.

If you walk a little further, you will get into Pushkin Square, near which there is the Iversky Women's Monastery, founded in 1850. Many pilgrims come to this monastery, who are attracted by this spiritual place. It is also interesting to visit the synagogue, which is built in the form of a reduced copy of the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem. The building is very running, but still worthy of attention.

One of the most mysterious sights of Samara is Stalin's bunker, which is located at Frunze 34. It was built during the war in case of the capture of Moscow by the Nazis. It was Samara that was chosen as the “spare” capital. Not long ago it was a classified object, but today there is an interesting exposition that tells a lot about that period. It is worth noting that the depth of the bunker is 37 meters, and this is one of the largest buildings of this kind. By the way, if you are looking for a convenient route on how to get to Samara Airport, one of the options is to take the bus, which departs every 15 minutes from the Frunze stop.

If you arrive in Samara on a fine day, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Strukovsky Garden, which is located in close proximity to the picturesque embankment of the majestic Volga.
