What varieties of hydrangea can be grown in a pot

Hydrangea varieties for home

Hydrangeas, which are used to decorate the interior, are identical to ordinary garden plants. Among them are two groups, divided by the form of inflorescences. Classic varieties with round inflorescences are more often used in garden design, and when decorating the interior, designers often prefer modern varieties with flat thyroid inflorescences and an unusual structure of flowers, including terry, corrugated and other forms.
Hydrangeas in flower pots look spectacular next to small architectural forms, emphasizing design elements and giving perfection to every corner of the garden or room. You can use for growing hydrangeas massive flowerpots on the legs, ceramic vases, pots of natural materials. The garden will be appropriate to bright elegant pots, unusually decorated flowerpots, able to draw attention to the plant and the corner where they are located.

Conditions for growing hydrangeas

These plants prefer acidic soil and partial shade. In order for the hydrangea to feel comfortable, its root system must be constantly moistened, and there were no drafts or elevated temperatures in the room. For the cultivation of hydrangea, you must use a special acidic soil with a high content of peat.
When watering, you should use soft rainwater, in the flowering period regularly every two weeks to make additional feeding. You can choose for this purpose specially designed preparations for hydrangea or azalea. Hydrangea responds well to the introduction of aluminum alum: 5 g per 1 liter of water. At the same time, the flowers change their color from white to blue, from pink to lilac. Instead of this method, old nails can be used to oxidize the soil or iron filings.
In the northern regions, all varieties of hydrangeas hibernate poorly in the open field, therefore, they are often grown in containers or pots, which allows plants to be at a positive temperature in winter. During the rest period, appropriate conditions should be created for hydrangea: the room should be dark and cool, the air temperature should not exceed + 5 ° C. For this purpose, the basement is perfect.During this period, the plant must be watered occasionally, so as not to overdry the earthen room. Hydrangea is brought into the room in March, and exposed to the open ground after the threat of possible frosts has passed.
Hydrangeas do not need to be replanted every year; this should be done only when necessary, when the old pot has become cramped. For this, transshipment is most often used - when the earthen clod with the roots, without damaging, is carefully transferred into a larger container without deepening the root neck.
